Jackie
Shroff (Real name Jaikishn Shroff, born 1
February 1958) is an Indian actor.
Biography
He made his film debut with the 1982 film Swami Dada
in which he was introduced by Dev Anand. After Swami
Dada, his second movie was Hero directed by Subhash
Ghai in which Jackie played the main lead. This film
was a huge hit and made him a star overnight. Hero was
Jackie's first blockbuster hit.
He was often paired with another leading actor Anil
Kapoor in films such as Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Andar Bahar
and Yudh which all gained huge box-office success. Even
though almost always in a smaller role, Jackie never
failed to impress audiences as well as critics with
his acting.
Some of his famous roles came in Angaar where he plays
a youth, frustrated with crime and curruption, takes
on a violent campaign against the system; Sangeet where
he plays a rural folk singer with a big heart and in
Gardish where his potrayal of a common man taking on
the criminal elements in society is considered his best
work.
He won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Parinda
His other memorable roles include the freedom fighter
"Shubhankar" in 1942: A Love Story (1994),
"Raj Kamal" a famous actor in Rangeela (1995),
and "Chunnilal" in the film Devdas (2002).
He was recently applauded for his performance in the
Bengali film Antar Mahal (2005).
