Delnaz Paul

When I was in college and used to take part in debate and elocution competitions, I would talk about serious subjects and people would, actually, cry,’’ recalls Delnaz Paul. You might find that difficult to believe when you realise that she is currently in the comic, Batliwala House No.43 (Sony) in which she plays Gulshan Batliwala.

You may also remember her funny performances in Aashirwad, Saajan Chale Sasural, Sajan Tum Jhooth Mat Bolo, Abhi To Main Jawan Hoon or Yes Boss in which she played Kavita, Asif Sheikh’s wife.

More memorable was her film debut as Sweetu Kapoor in the hit film, Kal Ho Na Ho. ‘‘I am happy doing comedy. I wouldn’t mind doing a serious role. It would be very challenging but I don’t see it coming in the near future.’’

Delnaz is married to television actor Rajeev Paul whom you see in Saarthi (Star Plus).

And while Batliwala is going along nicely, Delnaz has two big films to look forward to - Pyar Mein Twist, the Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia starrer and Milenge Milenge with Shahid and Kareena Kapoor.

Kal Ho Na Ho helped her career in films take off because Preity Zinta’s neighbour Sweetu was not just noticed but was also very popular. Now she expects the same to happen with Milenge Milenge in which she plays Kareena’s only confidante. ‘‘She’s a very important character,’’ says Delnaz who is also eagerly looking forward to Pyar Mein Twist in which she plays Dimple Kapadia’s elder daughter. ‘‘She’s a a loveable character, fun loving, doing weird things. It’s a sweet film also,’’ she adds.
