Uday
Majumdar
Trained in Light music under his father, late Ninu
Mazumdar and in Classical music under late Master
Navrang, Uday has learnt folk music of UP from Kaumudi
Munshi. Kaumudi Munshi is one of the few desciples
of Thumri Queen Siddheshwari Devi. Uday learnt Gujarati
Folk from Rajul Mehta who received training under
late Hemu Gadhvi.
Born
in Varanasi, Uday hails from a bilingual family speaking
Hindi and Gujarati. He is the only son of Ninu &
Kaumudi. He is a graduate in Political Science and
Psychology from the University of Bombay.
Uday has been actively involved in Kala Sangam and
Vandana Desai's programmes since 1990. He was also
associated with them for their annual Navratri Festivals
which were quite popular in Gujarati Community.
Uday
was the one who conducted musical programmes for the
1st Narsimha Mehta Award given to Shri Rajendra Mehta
at Junagadh and the 1st show of Gujarati Sugam Sangeet
(Light Music) held at Surat in December 2003 to give
the awards for excellence in Gujarati Music and Literature.
He has sung for several albums in Hindi and Gujarati.
He also organized and participated in concerts for
NCPA, All India Radio (AIR), Swar Gujarati and several
other institutions on themes ranging from Saint Poetry
to Indian Nationalism.
He is also known for his private concerts for groups
and individuals.
Uday has also provided music for several Documentaries
made by commercial as well as social organizations.
