GANDHINAGAR
The Green Capital
Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat
State, is situated on the western bank of the river
Sabarmati - 25 kms. north of Ahmedabad.
The capital, as its name suggests, has been dedicated to
the Father of the Nation-mahatma Gandhi. It has bloomed
into an ideal township with cosy residential quarters, well
laid-cut roads with flowering trees on both sides and building
with there simple but attractive facades.
At present, there
are 16 lakh trees in the State capital and new] 15 lakh
trees have been reared up during the current year Thus in
all 31 lakh trees have been reared up in Gandhinagar i.e.
an average comes to 26 trees per head in the state capital-Gandhinagar
The city occupies
an area of 57 sq. kilometers and is having an elevation
of 70 ft. altitude than Ahmedabad. The
main roads K, KH, G, GH, CH, CHH and J stretch from north
and south and nos. 1 to 7 crossing them at right angles
stretch from east to west dividing 30 sectors.
Various categories of residential quarters are constructed for government
employees, Shopping centers, community centers, parks and playgrounds so also primary and secondary
schools are provided in the sectors. An exclusive electronic
estate has also been set up in the town. All out efforts
are being made to present Gandhinagar as an ideal model
town for an integrated community life.
